In the early 1980s, avionics test equipment was fully custom, large, and expensive. With the advent of the personal computer, Excalibur’s founders saw an opportunity to leverage the personal computer and began manufacturing test equipment that worked with the PC. This equipment was smaller, less expensive and could be customized by the user.

As industry moved to newer host technologies, Excalibur developed products to support these technologies such as PCMCIA, VME, VXI, PMC, cPCI, VPx, and XMC among others. We also expanded the number of protocols we support from MIL-STD 1553 and ARINC 429 to ARINC 717, Serial, Ethernet, ARINC 825 CANbus, ARINC-664 p7 (AFDX), H009, Analog and Discrete, Firewire and MMSI.

In addition to test equipment, Excalibur now provides operational communications products as well, including the Dragon a rugged full-service computer introduced in 2005 that has seen continuous improvement and is currently in service in numerous mission critical capacities. The MACC, introduced in 2007, is a standalone translator that enables the integration of otherwise incompatible systems by translating between different protocols. The MACC is in use for well over a hundred projects in both flyable and ground-based applications.

We take pride in our relationships with our customers who are our most important source of new ideas for products and services. Discussions with purchasing departments regarding the difficulty of finding sources for cables and couplers led to our providing ancillary equipment for our users. When a customer was having trouble finding a Mil-Std power supply for his PC104 form factor computer, we developed one for him. Requests for tutorials have led to in-person and zoom courses all over the world as well as YouTube training materials.

We look forward to hear your thoughts as well.
